Beijing Day 2: Wandering and Houhai Lake

On day 2 I finally found my friend Mariola.  After walking and walking to find the tourism office it was CLOSED.  It's a holiday weekend and there are tons of tourists in Beijing.  I guess the tourism office needs a holiday too.
After that we decided to try some Sichuan food.   We had an eel dish and a shrimp dish.  Really good but really spicy.   I spoke all Chinese at the restaurant!

Then we decided a nap in one of the many Chinese parks would be perfect.  We went all over - wandering, taking a cab, some more wandering - we weren't happy with our park options.  When we were so exhausted and ready to give up on the day, we found the perfect spot - Houhai Lake.

We took a rickshaw ride around first and had a tour of the hutong's (alleyways) and all the bars / shops / restaurants around the lake.   It felt so nice to be driven around after wandering for so long.

After the ride we took advantage of the happy hour drink specials, met some guys from France, ate hot pot, went to a club, and finally made it back to the hostel.    It was a fun night.
